Cumilla journo murder: Main accused killed in ‘gunfight’
The main accused in a case filed over the murder of journalist Mohiuddin Sarker has been killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cumilla.
The incident took place at Golabari border area in the sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Raju, 35, son of Sadek Miah, of Bishnupur area of the district.
Major Mohammad Sakib Hossain, Company Commander of RAB-11, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
According to the source, acting on a tip off, a team of RAB went to the area to conduct a drive. Sensing the presence of the elite force, drug dealer Raju opened fire on them. In reply, they also fired back and Raju was injured seriously. Later, he was rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. His body was kept at the hospital.
On Wednesday night, journalist Mohiuddin was shot by some miscreants at Burichang upazila in Cumilla. Later, two youths in cooperation with BGB members rushed him to Burichang Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared him dead.
On Thursday afternoon, Mohiuddin’s mother Nazma Akter filed a case against three named people including Raju and 6-7 unnamed people with Burichange Police Station.
