Samrat denied bail in ACC case
Expelled Juba League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat has been denied bail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission on the charge of amassing illegal wealth.
Judge of Special Judge's Court-6 of Dhaka Md Asifuzzaman passed the order after a bail hearing on Wednesday, Samrat's lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji confirmed.
He said a total of four cases were lodged against his client. Court already granted bail to him in three cases but today rejected his bail petition in the rest case, barring him from getting released from jail.
Earlier on Monday, Dhaka 7th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekhar granted bail to him in the case filed with Ramna Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
On Sunday, Dhaka 1st Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader granted bail to him in the arms case and Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain in the money laundering case.
The ACC case statement said Samrat accumulated around Tk 2.94 crore illegally and the anti-graft body submitted chargesheet against him in court.
On December 6, 2019, the Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat from Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district.
