President for joint efforts to prevent drug abuse
President M Abdul Hamid has called upon all concerned, including public representatives, local administration and police to work together to curb drug abuse.
He came up with the call at a view-exchange-meeting with the members of various professionals and local officials at the Rastropoti Abdul Hamid Auditorium in Itna Upazila on Monday night, reports BSS.
The head of state instructed all concerned to be alert and aware of the consequences of drug abuse.
Welcoming all the Union Parishad chairmen of Itna Upazila in Kishoreganj, the President said the winning and losing candidates would have to work together for the development of the area.
"People have voted for the losing candidates too . . . If the two work together, the people's trust and confidence in the public representatives will increase and the overall development of the area will certainly be happened," he observed.
Regarding the immoral acts of some businessmen who are taking opportunity of the prevailing world politics, Abdul Hamid said some dishonest businessmen are making cash illegally, but it should not be happened at all.
The President called upon all to work together for establishment of 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by the Father of the Nation to the greater interest of the country and the people.
Abdul Hamid said everyone should take concerted efforts to maintain ecological balance in protecting livelihood and natural resources in the haor region.
He said the beels, canals and rivers are gradually filling up with sand coming from the upstream. As a result, the livelihood of the haor is shrinking day by day, he added.
Expressing grave concern over the declining of fish production in the haor area, he urged the fishermen not to catch fish during the pre-breeding season from April to June.
If the fry eggs hadn't destroyed, the amount of fish in the haor area would have increased, the President noted.
He called upon the local administration to take effective measures to control current nets and fishing.
The overall situation will be better if all including the public representatives and teachers work together in this regard.
Local lawmaker Rezwan Ahammad Taufiq and Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman, among others, addressed the meeting.
Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban, senior officials of district and upazila administration were also present.
