Dacoit killed in Kasba ‘gunfight’ with cop

An alleged robber was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Mirpukur area on Comilla-Sylhet Highway in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Saturday early morning.

The deceased is Lokman Mia, 30, son of Idris Ali, a resident of Maiyarchar village of the upazila.

Officer-in charge of Kasba Police Station Md Mohiuddin said acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a police team conducted a drive at Mirpukur village in the early morning.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, leaving Sub-Inspector Md Faruk, ASI Shohel Sikder, Constables Razib, Rahim and Sidikkque injured by bullets, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

At one stage of gunfight Lokman was caught in the line of fire and died in the spot while his associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, police recovered his body along with one pipe gun, three rounds of bullet and sharp weapons from the area.

Lokman was wanted in five cases of robbery filed with Kasba police station, said the OC.
