Three killed as truck rams auto-rickshaw

Three people were killed as a truck rammed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mofizul Mia, 30, son of Nafil Uddin, a resident of Barachandura village, Amsu Mia, 28, son of late Malek Mia, of Muradpur village, and the auto-rickshaw driver Md Samad Ali, 45, son of late Abdul Khalek, of east Madhabpur village under Andiura union in the upazila.

Police and locals said a Sylhet-bound truck from Dhaka rammed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in front of Jalalabad Gas Field on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 7 am, leaving one dead on the spot and two others injured.

Out of the injured, one, later, died on the way to Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet while another succumbed to his injuries at the facility. 

Shayestaganj Highway Police Station officer in-charge Mainul Islam said police seized the truck and the auto-rickshaw.
