Former President Shahabuddin Ahmed dies

Former President and Chief Justice of Bangladesh Shahabuddin Ahmed passed away on Saturday morning. He was 92.

He breathed his last around 10:25 am while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Supreme Court Special Officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter to Jago News.

BSS adds: He had been suffering from old age complications for a long time, family sources said.

In February, he got admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of CMH as his physical condition deteriorated.

Ahmed was born on February 1, 1930. He served as the President of Bangladesh from 1996-2001, and the Chief Justice from 1990-1995.

Earlier, he took over the charge of acting President of the country in 1990 after Hussain Muhammad Ershad resigned from the post.
