The 28 sailors of the Bangladeshi ship ‘Banglar Samriddhi’, who got stuck in the Ukrainian port of Olvia amid war, returned home on Wednesday.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying them took off from Romanian capital Bucharest 1:45am (Bangladesh local time) and landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:01pm.

Group Captain AHM Touhud Ul Ahsan, Executive Director of the airport, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Earlier, they were evacuated to Romania from war-torn Ukraine through Moldova on March 6.

The body of Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation ship, who died as a rocket hit the ship at a Ukraine port in the Black Sea, was kept in a bunker in Ukraine for sending back home at a convenient time.

The ship got stranded soon after it anchored at Olvia seaport of Ukraine on February 23 as the port failed to provide a pilot for the ship to leave the danger zone.
