New CEC, ECs take oath

Former Senior Secretary Kazi Habibul Awal has taken oath as the new Chief Election Commissioner.

Newly appointed four election commissioners - District and Session Judge (retd) Begum Rashida Sultana, Brigadier General (retd) Ahsan Habib Khan, and senior secretaries (retd) Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman - also took oath. 

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique administered and Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Ali Akber conducted the oath-taking ceremony at the Supreme Court's judges lounge around 1 pm on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Cabinet Division issued two separate gazette notifications appointing the CEC and ECs. 

President M Abdul Hamid appointed them according to Article 118 (1) of the Constitution, the notifications read.
