Coronavirus: 9 new deaths, 864 cases

Nine more people died from coronavirus and 864 newly contracted the virus in the past 24 hours.

With this, the total fatalities and infections rose to 29,033 and 19,42,680 respectively, a health directorate press release on Sunday.

As many as 21,508 samples were collected and 21,543 tested in the past day.

During the period, 6,264 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 18,06,689.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 435,161,680 people and killed 5,964,954 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 365,311,113 across the world.
