Coronavirus: 21 new deaths, 1987 cases

Twenty-one more people died from coronavirus and 1,987 newly contracted the virus in the past 24 hours.

With this, the total fatalities and infections rose to 28,965 and 19,33,291 respectively, a health directorate press release on Sunday.

As many as 25,405 samples were tested in the past day.

During the period, 9,252 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 17,54,884.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 424,164,105 people and killed 5,902,696 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 349,259,853 across the world.
