20% increase in water prices proposed
The Dhaka Water Supply And Sewerage Authority has proposed to the government to increase the prices of water up to 20 percent in a bid to reduce subsidiary.
WASA Managing Director Taksim A Khan said this after a view exchange meeting with the journalists at the agency building at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Wednesday.
"Our proposal is 20 percent. If the government wants to increases more, we will have no objection."
But WASA will not raise the prices of water if the government subsidizes, he added.
Now it costs Tk 25 to produce 1000 liter water but it is sold at Tk 15, that is why WASA wants to reduce subsidiary.
