City corporation approval required to construct building in capital

The government has made it required to take approval from two city corporations besides Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) to construct any kind of building in the capital.

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam made the disclosure after a meeting with the stakeholders at the Secretariat held on Sunday afternoon on the waterlogging situation in Dhaka and Chattogram cities.

"Permission will have to be taken from city corporation apart from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha to build all kinds of infrastructure, including ministry, division, office, association, and private company or houses," he said.

He said the government has decided to construct new bridges in different places of Dhaka with navigation facilities demolishing the old ones.

The minister mentioned canal and water body grabbing as one of the reasons behind waterlogging in Dhaka.

"These are being renovated and dispossessed and illegal establishments being evicted. I hope the waterlogging will not take an extreme turn in the capital this year," he added.
