EC formation: 6-member search committee formed

The search committee, which will suggests names for the appointments of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners, has been formed.

In the direction of President M Abdul Hamid, the Cabinet Division formed the six-member committee and issued a gazette notification in this regard on Saturday.

As per the law passed in the parliament, the search committee has to recommend the names to the president within 15 working days.

Supreme Court’s Appellate Division Justice Obaidul Hasan is the convener of the committee.

The other members are Supreme Court’s High Court Division Justice SM Kuddus Jaman, the Auditor General and Controller of Bangladesh, the Chairman of Public Service Commission Muhammad Sahul Hossain and noted writer Anwara Syed Haque. 

It is to be noted that, the tenure of the incumbent KM Nurul Huda led election commission will expire on February 14.
