15807 new Covid cases, 15 deaths in 24 hrs

The Bangladesh government recorded 15,807 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total infections stood at 17,47,331 and fatalities rose to 28,288, a health directorate press release said on Thursday.

As many as 49,579 samples were collected and 49,425 tested in the past day.

During the period, 1,037 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,61,043.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 363,615,249 people and killed 5,647,268 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 287,837,107 across the world.
