15527 new Covid cases, 17 deaths in 24 hrs

The Bangladesh government recorded 15,527 new COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

With this, the total infections stood at 17,31,524 and fatalities rose to 28,273, a health directorate press release said on Wednesday.

As many as 49,275 samples were collected and 49,073 tested in the past day.

During the period, 1,052 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,60,006.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 359,717,500 people and killed 5,636,137 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 284,920,434 across the world.
