The government has announced the closure of schools and colleges until February 6 in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus's new variant Omicron.

Making the announcement on Friday, the Cabinet Division gave five urgent instructions in this connection that were mentioned below:

1. All schools and colleges will remain closed from January 21 to February 6;

2. The universities will take the same measure in respective cases;

3. It is disallowed to hold social/political/religious rallies/programmes with the presence of more than 100 people. Those who will take part in the programmes must carry a PCR certificate along with them; 

4. All the employees working at public-private offices, and mill-factories will have to take vaccination certificate;

5. People must wear masks in all kinds of gatherings, including bazaar, mosque, bus stand, launch terminal, and rail station. Administration/law enforcement agencies will monitor compliance with the instruction.

Earlier on January 10, the government newly imposed 11-point restrictions with effect from January 13 as coronavirus cases started rising. 

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020, and it reported a total of 16,53,182 infections and 28,180 deaths to date.
