Missing ex-DU professor found dead
Police recovered the body of a former teacher of Dhaka University from Sadar upazila of Gazipur district on Friday morning, two days after she had gone missing.
Deceased Saida Khalek was a retired professor of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science.
Kashimpur Police Station officer in-charge Mahbub-e-Khoda told Jago News that they retrieved the body of Saida from around 200-yard distance of her rented house in Kashimpur's Panishail area.
One Anarul Islam was detained in this connection and he was being questioned, the OC said, adding that they primarily assume the teacher might have been killed.
DU Proctor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani told Jago News that retired prof Saida Khalek has been killed over the previous enmity, and the detained person admitted his crime.
Dhaka University Teachers Association general secretary prof Dr Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan said Saida was making a new home in Panishail area.
The workers demanded something from her for home construction that might lead to a conflict between her and the workers, he added.
Sources in the police station said Saida's building contractor Anwar informed her son over the phone that she was missing.
Later, her daughter Sadia Afrin lodged a general diary with the police station in this connection.
