Newly-elected UP member shot dead

A newly-elected union parishad member has been gunned down in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore district.

Deceased Uttam Sarker, 40, was elected member of Ward No. 1 in Sundoli Union Parishad elections held on December 26 last year.

Swapan Kumar Sarker, the uncle of the deceased, said three people on a motorcycle shot Uttam in front of North Harishpur Government Primary School around 8:15 pm on Monday, leaving him dead on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Abhaynagar Police Station inspector (investigation) Milon Mondal told Jago News that a team led by the district police's spokesman and detective branch officer in-charge Rupan Kumar Sarker visited the spot.
