Bangladesh Omicron cases rise to 30

The confirmed cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant in Bangladesh rose to 30 as of Monday, according to German based GISAID, an open source of coronavirus's genomic data.

The number was 20 until Friday morning and in a span of three days, it reached 30. 

Earlier on December 10 last year, Bangladesh detected its first cases of the variant.

Omicron was first reported on November 24 last year in southern Africa, and later, it sharply spread to different countries.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020, and till January 9, 2022, the total infections and fatalities stood at 15,93,700 and 28,102 respectively.  

The deadly virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

As of Sunday, the epidemic infected 306,184,600 people and killed 5,503,754 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 259,059,630 across the world.
