Cocktail blast: 10 BNP men jailed for 5 years
A court has sentenced ten leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to eight years in jail and acquitted fourteen others in a case filed over the cocktail blast in Bhashantek thana area in the capital in 2013.
Judge Amirul Islam of Dhaka Special Tribunal-9 passed the order on Monday.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each in default to suffer three more months in prison.
The convicts are Suman Chandra, Jasim, Aminul, Sohel, Kawsar, Jwel, Abdur Rahman, Shaheed, Mohsin and Liton.
The acquitted people are Ismail, Azad, Bakul Hossain, Nazrul Islam, Nadu Jaman, Abdul Kalam, Jilafi Bachchu, Biku Jaman, Jalil Islam, Feroz, Shamim, Kala Bachchu, Altaf Hossain and Sirajul Islam.
According to the case statements, the convicted people exploded cocktails at Bhashantek intersection to create sabotage during a hartal enforced by BNP on November 26 in 2013.
Later, Jahidul Islam, Sub Inspector of Bhashantek Police Station, filed the case against them under the Explosives Act.
On March 31 in 2014, ABM Asaduzzman, Sub Inspector of the police station, filed a charge sheet against them to the court.
