Dump truck kills 4 in Kushtia
Four people were killed and another was injured after a dump truck hit a van in Kushtia Sadar Upazila early Monday.
The incident took place on Kushtia-Jhenaidah road in front of Mondol Hotel at Bottoil Dakkhinpara around 5:30am.
The deceased were identified as Mukter Hossain, 50, the van driver, son of Hojel Hossain of Swastipur area in the sadar upazila, Jesmin, 30, wife of Azizul Haque, Rozina Khatun, 27, daughter of Bhadu Molla and Swapna Rani, 45, wife of Monoronjon.
The injured is Tahmina Khatun, wife of Shariful of Baliapara village at Alampur union in the sadar upazila. She was admitted to the Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital.
In this connection, Sabbir Alam, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said four people died on the spot and another was injured when a Jhenaidah-bound dump truck hit a van.
Being informed, a team of highway police rushed to the spot and recovered four dead bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue. The injured man was also sent to the hospital, the OC said.
Police seized the truck but its driver a helper managed to flee away, said Kushtia Highway Police OC Idris Ali.
