1140 new Covid cases, 7 deaths in 24 hrs

The Bangladesh government recorded 1,140 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths in the last 24 hours. 

With this, the total infections stood at 15,89,947 and fatalities rose to 28,097, a health directorate press release said on Thursday.

As many as 23,629 samples were collected, and 23,435 tested in the past day.

During the period, 196 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,50,368.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 298,409,911 people and killed 5,484,286 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 256,929,159 across the world.
