Launch fire: 2 more bodies recovered

Bodies of two more people were recovered from the Sugandha river on Wednesday morning where a massive fire broke out at the MV Abhijan-10 launch.

With these, the death toll from the launch fire rose to 44. 

Kobad Ali Sarker, Assistant Director of Barishal Divisional Fire Service, said the body of a woman was recovered at 8am and another body of a man was recovered around 10am. The bodies were handed over to police after completing the autopsies. 

“Our rescue operation is going on. Member of Naval Police and Coast Guards are also conducting their rescue effort,” he said.  

However, an investigation team of Naval Transport Directorate visited the launch around 10am and they took interviews of some witnesses.

A massive fire broke out at Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 in the Sugandha river in Deuri area under Ponabalia union early Friday.

A total of 44 people, so far, died, and many remain missing in the incident. And many others are being treated at hospitals with burn injuries.
