President, PM mourn deaths in Jhalakhathi launch fire

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the loss of lives and injuries to passengers in Jhalakathi launch fire.

In separate condolence messages, the head of the state and the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, reports BSS.

Earlier, Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 caught fire in the Sugandha river in Gabkhan Dhansiri area of Jhalakathi around 3 am today, leaving at least 40 people dead and several injured.
