The government recorded 291 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total infections in the country stood at 15,81,634 and fatalities rose to 28,051, the health directorate said in a press release on Tuesday.

The daily count came from a test of 20,909 samples in the past day.

Of the total patients, 15,46,071 recovered, with 264 in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8, 2020. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.

To date, the epidemic infected 275,925,711 people and killed 5,380,084 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 247,680,525 across the world.
