BCL leader among 9 KUET students expelled over teacher's death

Khulna University Of Engineering & Technology's (KUET) nine students, including the university unit Chhatra League general secretary Sadman Nahian Sezan, have temporarily been expelled amid the situation created following the unnatural death of Professor Dr Selim Hossain.

Other expelled students are Tahamidul Haque Ishraq, Sadman Shakib, Ragib Ahsan Munna, Mahmudul Hasan, Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Riaz Khan Niloy, Faisal Ahmed Rifat, and Naimur Ontu.

KUET acting registrar Md Anisur Bhuiyan came up with the disclosure on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier on Tuesday, KUET Electrical and Electronic Engineering dept Prof and Lalon Shah Hall Provost Dr Selim Hossain died of cardiac arrest.

Later, allegations surfaced that he died because of mental torture by the BCL leaders. The university authorities formed a three-member body to investigate the allegations.

It was alleged that KUET unit Chhatra League general secretary Sadman Nahian Sezan-led panel has recently attempted to influence the process of dining manager election for the month of December at Lalon Shah Hall.

The panel members have regularly been threatening Provost Dr Selim to elect their nominated candidate.

As a sequel, a group of people led by Sezan questioned him on a road on the campus on Tuesday and later they entered his personal room at his dept.

CCTV footage showed that they held a closed-door meeting with him for half-hour.

Then, he went to his home adjacent to the campus, and around 2:30 pm on the day, his wife noticed he was not coming out of the toilet.

He was found lying on the toilet floor after breaking open the door and rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him.

Today the university said in a statement that the Syndicate meeting took the decision of temporary expulsion under misconduct after reviewing CCTV footage and other information.
