Cumilla councilor murder: Key accused killed in ‘gunfight’
The main accused in a case filed over the murders of Cumilla ward councilor Syed Md Sohel and his aide was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Beribadh area in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila in the wee hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, son of late Janu Miah, of Sujanagar Purbapara at 16 number ward of Cumilla. He was accused in different cases including a murder case.
Parimal Das, Sub Inspector of Cumilla DB Police, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said, the district DB Police and Kotwali Model Thana police jointly conducted a drive in the area around 1:30am after being tipped off that a group of terrorists were staying there.
“Sensing presence of the police, the terrorists fired on them. In reply, police also fired back. Later, Shah Alam was injured and seen lying in the area. Later, he was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead,” he said.
Earlier on Monday night, two other accused in the case were also killed in an alleged gunfight with police.
On November 22, the 17 number ward councillor of CCC Sohel and his aide Haripada were gunned down by the masked miscreants at their office at Pathuapara in city. Three other people were also injured in the incident. They are Awlad Hossen Raju, Md Juwel and Md Rasel.
