Judge Kamrunnahar directed not to sit at court

Mosammat Kamrunnahar, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7, has been directed not to sit at court from 9:30am today.

The decision was made after Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain discussed with senior judges of the Supreme Court (SC), Supreme Court administration has said.

A press release signed by SC Special Officer and Spokesperson Mohammed Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter on Sunday.  

The SC has also sent a letter to the law ministry asking it to suspend the criminal judicial powers of Judge Kamrunnahar, and to attach her to the ministry, the press release said.

Earlier on 11 November, Kamrunnahar had asked the police not to accept rape cases after 72 hours into the incident.

She gave the observation while acquitting all five accused in the Banani double rape case.

The observation drew huge criticism from various sections of society.
