2nd phase polls to 835 UPs held amid violence

The second phase of elections to 835 Union Parishads (UPs) was held on Thursday amid chase-counter chase and violence in different places of the country.

At least six people were killed - three in Narsingdi and the rest three in Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, and Cumilla - and more than 100 injured in the election violence.

Earlier, the voting began at 8 am and ended at 4 pm.

The Election Commission on September 29 announced the schedule of elections to 848 UPs but later, it excluded a UP from the list and suspended voting in seven UPs.

Apart from this, candidates in five Union Parishads won the polls unopposed.
