HC orders judicial inquiry into communal violence
The High Court on Thursday ordered a judiciary inquiry into the communal violence in the country's six districts.
The six districts are Chandpur, Noakhali, Chattogram, Rangpur, and Feni.
The HC asked the judicial magistrates of the six districts to submit a report within 60 days.
The bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Molla gave the order after a hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
Alongside, the court also issued a rule in the writ seeking an explanation why a directive should not be given to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of the minority communities in the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua filed the writ petition in the High Court seeking a directive to remove all kinds of instigating posts and videos circulated in different social media for the purpose of destroying communal harmony.
Nineteen people, including the secretaries to the Home, Law, Information, and Social Welfare Ministries, the inspector general of police, the chairman of BTRC, and the deputy commissioners of the six districts, were made respondents in the rule.
