Islamic orator held for 'provocative speech'

Police have arrested an Islamic orator from Dhaka's Keraniganj upazila on charge of delivering provocative speech over the reported desecration of Holy Quran in Cumilla.

A team of police's Criminal Investigation Department nabbed Mawlana Abdur Rahim Biplobi, 39, from in front of Chunkutia Purbapara (Amin Para) Jame Masjid under Suvadda union around 7:20 am on Thursday.

Azad Rahman, additional police superintendent (media) of CID, confirmed the arrest to Jago News this evening.

Biplobi gave an instigating speech and threatened movement in a waz-mahfil on October 13 following the Holy Quran was found in a puja mandap at Nanua Dighir Par in Cumilla city on the day, he said.

The speaker also spread insulting and fierce speech blaming police over the deaths of a few people in Chandpur following the reported demeaning of the Holy Quran in Cumilla, the CID official added.

Arrested Biplobi is an accused of another case filed with Paltan Model Police Station in the capital under the Digital Security Act.
