Charge sheet against Papia, her husband accepted

A court has accepted a charge sheet against Shamima Nur Papia, expelled general secretary of Jubo Mohila League’s Narsingdi district unit, and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon in a case filed over amassing Tk 6.24 crore illegally. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge K M Imrul Kayesh accepted the charge and ordered transfer of the case to Dhaka’s Special Judges’ Court-3 on Wednesday. 

The court also fixed November 8 for hearing on charge framing against the couple in the case.

On March 30, Shahin Ara Momtaz, Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Senior Special Judge’s Court.

The ACC officer filed the case against the couple with its Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka on August 4 last year.

According to the case statement, ACC found that the couple amassed illegal wealth worth Tk62,418,000.

On October 12 last year, a Dhaka court sentenced Papia and Sumon to 27 years in jail in an arms case.
