Bomb attack in court premises: 1 to die, another get life

A court has sentenced a man to death and another to life imprisonment in a case filed over the bomb attack at the police check post in a Chattogram court premises.

Judge Abdul Halim of Chattogram Anti-Terrorism Tribunal passed the order on Sunday.  

The death-row convict is Boma Mizan and the man who get life imprisonment is Jabed Iqbal. Of them, Mizan is on the run. 

According to the court source, the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujhahideen Bangladesh carried out the bomb attack on November 29 in 2005. Police constable Rajib Barua and footballer Shabuddin Ahmed were killed on the spot. Later a case was filed with Chattogram Kotwali Police Station.

On May 18 in 2016, the then DB Inspector Hla Ching Pru submitted a charge sheet against five people to the court. Later, the court accepted the charge sheet on July 16.

Later, the court dropped the names of three people who were sentenced to death in another case. They were JMB chief Shayakh Abdur Rahman, his second-in-command Siddiqur Rahman alias Bangla Bhai and JMB’s then military commander Ataur Rahman Sani.
