Evaly MD Rassel remanded again, wife sent to jail
Evaly's Managing Director Md Rassel has been remanded for another day but his wife Shamima Nasrin, also chairman of the e-commerce platform, sent to jail in a fraud case filed with the capital's Dhanmondi Police Station.
Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque on Tuesday passed the order after a hearing.
On the day, police sought a seven-day remand against Rassel and Shamima while their lawyers prayed bail.
Earlier on Friday, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam granted police to interrogate the couple in another fraud case filed with Gulshan Police Station.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested the couple from their Mohammadpur residence in the capital on Thursday.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, a man named Arif Baker lodged the case against Rassel and his wife with Gulshan Police Station accusing them of cheating him.
The arrest came two days after an inter-ministerial committee headed by the Committee Ministry had recommended taking legal action against Evaly amid allegations of its irregularities.
On July 17, a Dhaka court issued an overseas travel ban on the couple after the Anti-Corruption Commission had filed a petition to bar them from leaving the country as part of its probe into the e-commerce company's alleged cheating with customers.
Earlier on August 27 last year, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of Bangladesh Bank directed the banks concerned to freeze accounts of Evaly, Rassel, and Nasrin.
