DGHS driver Malek jailed for 15 years
A court has sentenced Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) driver Abdul Malek to 15 years in jail in a case filed under Arms Act.
Judge Rabiul Alam Dhaka of Dhaka’s Additional 3rd Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on September 13, the same court fixed September 20 to deliver the judgment. A total of 13 prosecution witnesses were examined by the court in the case.
Investigation officer and sub-inspector Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury of RAB-1 filed charge-sheet in the case on January 11, 2021, and the court on February 14 accepted it. The court on April 4 framed charges in the case.
RAB on September 20, 2020, arrested Malek for his involvement in businesses of illegal arms, fake notes and other illegal activities. RAB at the time recovered a foreign-made pistol, one magazine, five bullets, fake notes of Taka 1.5 lakh, a laptop and a mobile phone from his possession.
RAB-1 inspector Alamgir Hossain later filed the arms case against Malek.
Malek possessed more than Tk 100 crore in wealth, RAB claimed.
The elite force primarily assumed that Malek accumulated wealth by maintaining good relations with DGHS’s high-ranking officials.
