Verdict in case against SK Sinha on Oct 5

A court in Dhaka on Tuesday fixed October 5 to deliver its verdict in a case filed against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar (SK) Sinha and 10 others for allegedly embezzling Tk 4 crore loan from Farmers Bank (Now Padma Bank).

Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of the Special Judge's Court-4 of Dhaka set the date after the prosecution, and defence concluded their arguments.

Earlier on August 29, seven accused of the case surrendered before the same court and pleaded not guilty. 

They are Farmers Bank Ltd's former audit committee chairman Md Mahbubul Haque Chisti (Babul Chisti), former MD AKM Shamim, first vice president Swapan Kumar Roy, vice president Md Lutful Haque, former SIVP Gazi Salah Uddin, Tangail's Md Shahjahan and Niranjan Chandra Saha.

The Anti-Corruption Commission director Syed Iqbal Hossain lodged the case against SK Sinha and 10 others with ACC Dhaka-1 coordinated district office on July 10, 2019, in connection with swindling Tk 4 crore taking a loan from then Farmers Bank (now Padma Bank).
