Man gets life in prison for possessing 50 grams heroin

A court in Bogura on Monday sentenced a man to life in prison for possessing around 50 grams of heroin.

The district and sessions judge Naresh Chandra Sarker pronounced the verdict. 

The judge also fined lifer Liton Mondal, a resident of Bhalukatla village in Dhunat upazila, Tk 20,000, and in default, he will have to serve in jail for two more years. 

The case statement said police detained Liton along with about 50 grams of heroin searching in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of Rahimabad Jamtala Korotoa Clinic in Shahjahanpur upazila on December 1, 2016.

Later, a case was filed against him with Shahjahanpur Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.

Prosecution lawyer advocate Abdul Matin said the court awarded the accused life-term imprisonment after he had been found guilty.
