Ex-Lt Col Shahid, his wife jailed for 10 years

A Dhaka court has sentenced sacked lieutenant colonel Shahid Uddin Khan and his wife Farjana Anjum Khan to 10 years in jail in a case filed under the Special Power Act (SPA). 

Judge Syeda Hafcha Jhuma of Eight Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court of Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday and also issued arrest warrants for them as they are on the run.

The court fined Tk 50,000 each, in default of which they have to serve six more months in jail. 

The court also acquitted two people in the case. They are Khorshed Alam Patwary and Syed Akidul Ali. 

On 15 January in 2019, members of Counter Terrorism Unit conducted a drive at the house of Shahid and recovered two pistols, six bullets, two shotguns and fake three lakh currencies. 

On January 17, Inspector of the unit Biplob Kishore Sheel filed a case against five people under the SPA. Later, investigation of the case Nripen Kumar Bhowmik submitted a charge sheet to the court in this connection.
