RMCH counts eight more deaths in Covid-19 unit

Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) has recorded eight more deaths at its Covid-19 unit during the last 24 hours till 6am today, taking its toll to 314 so far this month, reports BSS.

However, yesterday's fatality figure from the lethal virus was just four, which was the lowest-ever since the second wave of coronavirus hit the country around four months back.

Earlier, the number of casualties was 566 in July and 405 in June, health officials said.

RMCH Director Brigadier General Dr Shamim Yazdani told newsmen that among the fresh eight deaths, five were male and three female.

Two of the deceased were the residents of Rajshahi, two each from Chapainawabganj and Natore and one each from Naogaon and Kushtia districts, he said.

"Among the deaths, one tested positive for Covid-19 and seven had Covid-19 symptoms and other breathing constraints," he said.

Nine more patients were admitted to the designated Covid-19 wards of the hospital in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of patients to 177. Some 84 people tested positive during the same period.

Sixteen other patients returned home from the Covid-19 unit after being cured during the time.

Yazdani said the infection rate has decreased in Rajshahi to some extent compared to the previous day.

A total of 13 people have tested Covid-19 positive after testing 156 samples in Rajshahi's two laboratories on Friday, showing 8.33 percent positivity rate against 19.03 percent on Thursday.

Yazdani said the number of admitted patients has also declined. So, the number of designated wards and beds in the hospital was reduced, he added.
