Youth beaten dead, 10 Padma Bridge workers held

The security guards and workers of Padma Bridge project have allegedly beaten a young man to death in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj district on suspicion of thief.

Deceased Zulhas Hawlader, 35, was the son of late Hasan Hawlader, a resident of Kumarbhog rehabilitation center in the upazila. By profession, he was an auto-rickshaw driver.

The incident took place in Padma Bridge area near Mawa Chowrasta on early Friday.

Relatives said 10 to 12 men mercilessly beat up Zulhas with rods tying his hands and legs.

Later, he was rushed to Srinagar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

How he went to the area, and why he was beaten, the relatives don't know.

About this, Louhajang Police Station officer in-charge Alamgir Hossain said police detained 10 people in connection with the incident.

The detainees are Selim, Rabbi, Topu, Al-Amin, Arif, Abdul Mannan, Israfil, Rubel, and Sushanta. They all are working in the bridge project, the OC added.
