7.81 lakh more vaccine jabs arrive from Japan
Bangladesh has received 7.81 lakh more doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Japan under COVAX facilities.
The consignment of jabs reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 3:15pm on Saturday.
Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh ITO Naoki, and deputy secretary of the health department of Bangladesh's Health Ministry Jashim Uddin Khan were present at the airport during this on behalf of the respective countries.
Maidul Islam Pradhan, public relations officer of the ministry, confirmed the matter this afternoon.
Japan has, so far, sent a total of 24,24,300 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Bangladesh out of three million jabs it pledged to give under COVAX facilities.
Earlier, the country sent 6,16,780 jabs here on August 2, 7,81,320 on July 31, and 2,45,200 on July 24.
COVAX, however, is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines directed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and the World Health Organization.
