Three youths drown in Barishal
Three young men have died in three separate incidents of drowning in Barishal city and Gaurnadi upazila.
In Barishal city, a young man went missing in the Kirtankhola River from the ponton of Beltala Ferry Ghat on Friday afternoon.
Being informed, police from Kaunia Station, coast guards, and firefighters conducted a rescue operation and recovered his body from the river around 11am on Saturday.
Deceased Shahin Khalifa, 35, was a resident of Biswasherhat area in Sadar upazila, said Barishal Fire Service and Civil Defense official Mohammad Abdullah.
Quoting family members, he said late Shahin was an epilepsy patient and he might have fallen in the river losing consciousness.
In Gaurnadi, the fire service personnel rescued a youth in critical condition from a waterbody in Tarakupi village on Friday night and rushed him to Gaurnadi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Dead Ridoy Fakir, 22, was the son of Moslem Fakir, a resident of Kotkosthal village in the upazila. He was also an epilepsy patient, family members said.
Another young man was found dead in their pond in Baurgati village in the same upazila on yesterday night.
Family members said deceased Shipon Chaprashi, 23, was an epilepsy patient.
Gaurnadi Police Station officer in-charge Md Afzal Hossain confirmed the two incidents.
