Helena Jahangir remanded

A court in Dhaka on Friday evening placed businesswoman Helena Jahangir, who has recently been removed from a subcommittee of Awami League, on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order after police produced her before the court, seeking a five-day remand.

Earlier on Thursday night, the Rapid Action Battalion raided her residence at Gulshan and detained her.

RAB said it also recovered foreign wine, illegal walkie-talkie, knives, foreign currencies, casino materials, and deer hide from her possession during the drive.

The elite force this afternoon lodged the DSA case against her with Gulshan Police Station, confirmed officer in-charge (OC) Abul Hasan.

Helena Jahangir is a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI), and owner of 'Joyjatra Television'.

She was a member of the Awami League’s subcommittee on women’s affairs but the body has recently removed her from the post after her name came up on social media as the president of ‘Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League’ that is not approved by the party.
