Youth arrested for 'raping' intellectually disabled

The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested a young man for allegedly raping an intellectually disabled teenager in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla district.

Arrested Mohammad Shohag, 32, is a resident of Barera village in the upazila, the company commander of CPC-2 under RAB-11, Major Talukder Nazmus Sakib, said on Sunday afternoon.

He said the victim's family had complained to RAB that Shohag violated her on different occasions between September 15 and December 31 of 2020. As a result, she became pregnant, and on July 11 she gave birth to a baby boy.

Following the complaint, the elite force conducted a special drive in Barera area on Saturday evening and nabbed the alleged rapist, he added.

The RAB official also said the young man primarily confessed to the rape.

A case, however, was filed against him with Debidwar Police Station in this connection, Major Sakib said.

The police station officer in-charge Arifur Rahman said the accused was sent to jail this morning following a court order.
