Six die as pickup van rams auto-rickshaw

Six people were killed and another was injured as a pickup van rammed into an auto-rickshaw in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district on Friday morning.

Among the deceased, three were identified as Utpal Raha, 45, and Nayan Dutta, 25, son of Jagadish Dutta, residents of Naldha Moubhag area in Fakirhat upazila, and Abdul Hye, 55, of Chaksi village in Rampal upazila.

Fakirhat Police Station officer in-charge Saidul Anam said a pickup van hit an auto-rickshaw (locally known as easy bike) in Bailtali area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway 7:45am, leaving five passengers and the driver of the latter vehicle dead on the spot and another injured.

Later, injured Nur Mohammad, 60, was admitted to Fakirhat Hospital, he added.
