Security beefed up in Comilla

Security has been beefed up in different areas of Comilla district and Metropolitan area following the country’s worst and deadly hostage crisis which was ended on Saturday morning when heavily-armed commandos stormed the popular Dhaka Holey Artisan cafe in the diplomatic enclave and killed militants who had been killing 20 foreigners and holding many people, captive for over 12 hours.

Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and members of detectives have been put alert in part of security following a special instruction of Home Ministry and police Head Quarter, said Md Shah Abid Hossain, Police Commissioner of Comilla.  

Police also tighten the securities at Bakhrabad Gas Field, Bangura and Gopalnagar Gas Field in different upazilas of the district where foreigners have been staying.  

Beside, foreigners also suggested moving carefully. Earlier, gunmen seized Holey Artisan cafe at 8.45pm, killing 20 hostages and two officers in a siege that ended Saturday morning.

All the hostages killed were foreigners and six gunmen were killed while one was held alive the military said.

Troops rescued 14 hostages, according to Brig. Gen. Mujibur Rahman of the Bangladesh army.
