Rupganj factory fire: Sajeeb Group owner's 2 sons get bail

Two sons of Sajeeb Group owner Abul Hashem have secured bail in a case filed over the deaths of 52 people in a fire at the factory of Hashem Foods Ltd in Narayanganj's Rupganj.

Tawsib Ibrahim, and Tanzim Ibrahim, the directors of the Group, were bailed by the district Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khanam on Wednesday following the police had produced them before the court after completion of a four-day remand.

But she rejected the bail plea of the rest six accused - Hashem, his two other sons Hasib Bin Hashem alias Sajeeb and Tarek Ibrahim, respectively deputy managing director, and director of the Group, Shahenshah Azad, its chief executive officer, Mamunur Rashid, deputy general manager of Hashem Foods Ltd and Md Alauddin, its civil engineer and administrative officer.

The court inspector Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

Bhulta Police Outpost inspector Nazim Uddin lodged the case against eight people.

Earlier on July 8, the factory of Hashem Foods Ltd, which manufactures various juice, soft drinks, and food items, caught a deadly fire.

Immediately following the incident, three people were reported to have died and more than 50 received injuries.

On the following day, the fire service personnel recovered the bodies of 49 more people from the rubble, taking the tally to 52.

Hashem Foods Ltd is, however, a sister concern of Sajeeb Group.
