Rupganj factory fire: Writ seeking Tk 1cr compensation for each victim filed

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking compensation of Tk1 crore for each of 52 victims of Shezan Juice factory fire in Narayanganj’s Rupganj.

It also demanded to give Tk 35 lakh to each of injured workers.

The petition was sent to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court by email on Saturday.

It also sought immediate payment of Tk 10 lakh to the families of each deceased and Tk 5 lakh to the injured.

Four human rights organizations, Bangladesh Legal and Services Trust, Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) and Safety and Rights Society have filed the petition.

To be noted, a massive fire broke out at Shezan juice factory in Rupganj around 4:45pm on Thursday. Three people died after jumping from the roof during the fire and 49 bodies were recovered from the factory.
