Rupganj factory fire: 8 including Sajeeb Group chairman arrested

Sajeeb Group Chairman Abul Hashem, his son Sajeeb, and six others have been arrested in a case filed over the deaths of 52 people in a fire at Hashem Foods Ltd's factory in Narayanganj's Rupganj.

The company's chief executive officer, director, and the factory in-charge are among the rest arrestees.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal made the disclosure on Saturday afternoon while talking to the journalists after inspection of the factory.

Later, Superintendent of Narayanganj Police (SP) Mohammad Zayedul Alam said police filed the case against eight people.

Earlier on Thursday, the factory of Hashem Foods Ltd, which manufactures various juice, soft drinks, and food items, caught a deadly fire.

Immediately following the incident, three people were reported to have died and more than 50 received injuries.

On the following day, the fire service personnel recovered the bodies of 49 more people from the rubble, taking the tally to 52.

Hashem Foods Ltd is, however, a sister concern of Sajeeb Group.
