Abetment to suicide of schoolgirl: Prime accused remanded
A court in Dhaka on Tuesday placed the prime accused of a case filed for allegedly abetting the suicide of a sixth-grader in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam gave the order of a three-day remand against Shamim after police produced him before the court.
Earlier on Monday, victim Urmi Akter's father Abul Hossain lodged the case with Sabujbag Police Station accusing two youths - Shamim and Fahim - of abetting the suicide of his daughter.
The case statement said Urmi would study staying at her maternal uncle's home in North Basabo. The same area resident, Fahim, tricked her into a love relationship with him, and at one stage, he recorded her indecent video.
Later, he and Shamim have been blackmailed her threatening to disclose the video and on several occasions, they took money from her. Despite this, they circulated the video on social media platforms.
On Sunday night, she was found hanging at their house, and subsequently, she was pronounced dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
